Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Contemplation by Augustus Leopold Egg was auctioned at Christies in London in February 2003. The price achieved of GBP 11,950.00 (€ 17,446.62) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 10,000.00 – 15,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Augustus Leopold Egg - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Queen Elizabeth discovers she is no longer young. In the melancholy of her sickness, she desired to see a true looking-glass, into which she had not looked for twenty years., which sold at auction in November 2002 for GBP 38,240.00 (€ 59,881.87).
