Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Portrait Of A Gentleman Seated, Full-Length, In A Brown Coat And Red Waistcoat, His Hat And Cane In His Hand, Before A River Landscape by Arthur Devis was auctioned at Sothebys in New York in May 2019. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of USD 15,000.00 – 20,000.00, the actual price achieved of USD 16,250.00 (€ 14,575.30) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Admittedly, works by Arthur Devis have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Portrait of Thomas Bateman Lane (b. 1735), small full-length, in a grey suit with a blue waistcoat, holding a tricorn in his left hand, leaning on a tree stump, in a river landscape with the sea beyond in June 2004 with an auction result of GBP 53,775.00 (€ 80,033.31).

Der Schätzpreis für das Kunstwerk wurde von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 15.000,00 – 20.000,00 angegeben, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis von USD 16.250,00 (€ 14.575,30) konnte den unteren Schätzpreis somit knapp übertreffen.
