Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Portrait of a gentleman, possibly the Reverend William of Digby, of Landenstown, Country Kildare, full-length, seated beneath a tree, a gun and pheasant by his side by Arthur Devis was auctioned at Sothebys in London in December 2021. The price achieved of GBP 4,788.00 (€ 5,711.08) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 4,000.00 – 6,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Arthur Devis achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Portrait of Thomas Bateman Lane (b. 1735), small full-length, in a grey suit with a blue waistcoat, holding a tricorn in his left hand, leaning on a tree stump, in a river landscape with the sea beyond in June 2004 with an auction result of GBP 53,775.00 (€ 80,033.31).
Auktionsergebnis im Rahmen der Erwartungen
Die Arbeit Portrait of a gentleman, possibly the Reverend William of Digby, of Landenstown, Country Kildare, full-length, seated beneath a tree, a gun and pheasant by his side von Arthur Devis kam im Dezember 2021 bei Sothebys in London zur Auktion. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Portrait of Thomas Bateman Lane (b. 1735), small full-length, in a grey suit with a blue waistcoat, holding a tricorn in his left hand, leaning on a tree stump, in a river landscape with the sea beyond im Juni 2004 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 53.775,00 (€ 80.033,31).
