Despite a disappointment, a good price for Antoine Vollon
When the work French boats On An Estuary by Antoine Vollon was auctioned at Sothebys in New York in May 2013, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 30,000.00 – 40,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 23,750.00 (€ 18,286.11). Despite this disappointing result, French boats On An Estuary is the most expensive artwork by Antoine Vollon that we have observed at auction so far.
