Auction result well in line with expectations
In January 2006 Christies in New York held the auction Old Master & 19th Century Drawings, which included the work A Roman soldier beseeching another, surrounded by figures, after la Thébaïde by Jean Racine by Antoine Charles Horace Vernet. The price achieved of USD 2,400.00 (€ 1,974.01) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as USD 2,000.00 – 3,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Antoine Charles Horace Vernet achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work A Skirmish with the Cossacks during Napoleon's Russian Campaign of 1812 in April 2003 with an auction result of USD 153,100.00 (€ 124,674.27).

Der dabei erzielte Preis von USD 2.400,00 (€ 1.974,01) lag im Rahmen der Erwartungen – die Schätzpreisspanne war von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit USD 2.000,00 – 3.000,00 angegeben worden. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Antoine Charles Horace Vernet erzielen.
