Auction result well in line with expectations
The work A bailiff of the Supreme Court of Appeal by Antoine Charles Horace Vernet was sold in the Old Master & 19th Century Drawings auction at Christies in New York in January 2006. The price achieved of USD 4,200.00 (€ 3,454.52) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as USD 3,000.00 – 5,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Antoine Charles Horace Vernet achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work A Skirmish with the Cossacks during Napoleon's Russian Campaign of 1812 in April 2003 with an auction result of USD 153,100.00 (€ 124,674.27).
