Auction result misses estimated price range
This work of art by Andrea Appiani could be acquired at Christies in New York in January 2006 for an unexpectedly low price. In the Old Master & 19th Century Drawings auction, the work An allegory of Peace setting fire to a military trophy, with an allegory of Justice and a putto changed hands for USD 1,920.00 (€ 1,579.21) - missing the lower end of the estimate range of USD 2,000.00 – 3,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Andrea Appiani achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Portrait of Napoleon Bonaparte (1769-1821), as First Consul, three-quarter-length, holding a sabre in June 2004 with an auction result of USD 769,100.00 (€ 631,496.84).
In der Auktion Old Master & 19th Century Drawings wechselte die Arbeit An allegory of Peace setting fire to a military trophy, with an allegory of Justice and a putto für USD 1.920,00 (€ 1.579,21) den Besitzer – und verfehlte damit das untere Ende der Schätzpreisspanne von USD 2.000,00 – 3.000,00.
