In October 2000 Christies in New York held the auction Important American Furniture, Folk Art and Decorative Arts, which included the work Portrait of a Woman Holding a Bible, circa 1815 by Ammi Phillips. The »bidding war« ended at USD 9,987.50 (€ 11,769.38), 66% above the upper estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Ammi Phillips achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Portrait of a Young Girl and her Cat in January 2007 with an auction result of USD 1,248,000.00 (€ 960,147.72).

Im Oktober 2000 führte Christies in New York die Auktion Important American Furniture, Folk Art and Decorative Arts durch, in der auch die Arbeit Portrait of a Woman Holding a Bible, circa 1815 von Ammi Phillips zur Versteigerung kam. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von USD 9.987,50 (€ 11.769,38) und damit 66% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Ammi Phillips erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Portrait of a Young Girl and her Cat im Januar 2007 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 1.248.000,00 (€ 960.147,72).
