When the work Italian an Elegant Woman With Her Maltese by Ambrogio Antonio Alciati was auctioned at Sothebys in New York in November 2017, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 80,000.00 – 120,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 68,750.00 (€ 57,782.82).
