A top price for Akseli Gallen-Kallela - as previously expected
In October this year Christies in Amsterdam held the auction Masterpieces from the Collection of Sam Josefowitz: A Lifetime of Discovery and Scholarship, which included the work Autumn - Five Crosses: A preliminary work for the fresco in the Jusélius Mausoleum by Akseli Gallen-Kallela. The price achieved of GBP 1,008,000.00 (€ 1,157,464.04) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 800,000.00 – 1,200,000.00. Even if this result could not surprise positively, Autumn - Five Crosses: A preliminary work for the fresco in the Jusélius Mausoleum is the most expensive artwork by Akseli Gallen-Kallela that we have observed at auctions so far.
