The »bidding war« ended at GBP 960.00 (€ 1,425.82), 20% above the upper estimate. Admittedly, works by Adolphus Knell have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work A fresh breeze in the Channel; and Evening after a squall off the Cornish coast in May 2001 with an auction result of GBP 5,287.50 (€ 8,864.61).
