In April last year Bonhams in London held the auction The Marine Sale, which included the work Shipping at sunset; Fishing boats at anchor under moonlight, a pair each 15.2 x 23.2cm (6 x 9 1/8in). (2) by Adolphus Knell. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 1,657.50 (€ 1,976.51), 38% above the upper estimate. Admittedly, works by Adolphus Knell have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work A fresh breeze in the Channel; and Evening after a squall off the Cornish coast in May 2001 with an auction result of GBP 5,287.50 (€ 8,864.61).

Im April letzten Jahres führte Bonhams in London die Auktion The Marine Sale durch, in der auch die Arbeit Shipping at sunset; Fishing boats at anchor under moonlight, a pair each 15.2 x 23.2cm (6 x 9 1/8in). (2) von Adolphus Knell zur Versteigerung kam. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von GBP 1.657,50 (€ 1.976,51) und damit 38% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Adolphus Knell auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit A fresh breeze in the Channel; and Evening after a squall off the Cornish coast im Mai 2001 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 5.287,50 (€ 8.864,61).
