Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Shipping at dawn; Shipping at dusk, a pair each 15.3 x 22.9cm (6 x 9in). (2) by Adolphus Knell was auctioned at Bonhams in London in October last year. The price achieved of GBP 956.25 (€ 1,114.02) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 800.00 – 1,200.00. Admittedly, works by Adolphus Knell have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work A fresh breeze in the Channel; and Evening after a squall off the Cornish coast in May 2001 with an auction result of GBP 5,287.50 (€ 8,864.61).
