In January 2004 Christies in New York held the auction Old Master and 19th Century Drawings, which included the work View of Gouda seen from the South East, with the Janskerk in the center and the Tiendwegspoort to the right by Abraham Rutgers. The »bidding war« ended at USD 50,190.00 (€ 40,306.78), 67% above the upper estimate. Admittedly, works by Abraham Rutgers have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Skaters on the Vecht in winter, with a slanting tree in the foreground in July 2014 with an auction result of GBP 302,500.00 (€ 381,547.61).
Oberer Schätzpreis um 67 % übertroffen
Im Januar 2004 führte Christies in New York die Auktion Old Master and 19th Century Drawings durch, in der auch die Arbeit View of Gouda seen from the South East, with the Janskerk in the center and the Tiendwegspoort to the right von Abraham Rutgers zur Versteigerung kam. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von USD 50.190,00 (€ 40.306,78) und damit 67% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Abraham Rutgers auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Skaters on the Vecht in winter, with a slanting tree in the foreground im Juli 2014 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 302.500,00 (€ 381.547,61).
