with the coat of arms of the Gael and Beresteyn family (upper right); and inscribed with the name of the sitter 'Emmerensia van Berestein huijsvrouwe van Johan Gael Burgemeester der Stad Haarlem. Obiit 14 Novr 1625.' (on the reverse)

Upper estimate price exceeded by more than 100%
This artwork by Abraham de Vries achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in Amsterdam in May 2011. In the Old Masters and 19th Century Art auction, the work Portrait of an elegant lady, half-lenght, said to be Erminia van Beresteyn (1544-1625), in a black dress with fur jacket, a 'molensteen kraag' and white headdress sold for EUR 37,000.00 - well above the upper estimate of EUR 18,000.00. Admittedly, works by Abraham de Vries have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Portrait of Jacques Boyceau (1560-1633) in June 2021 with an auction result of EUR 170,100.00.
Oberer Schätzpreis um mehr als 100% übertroffen
Dieses Kunstwerk von Abraham de Vries erzielte im Mai 2011 bei Christies in Amsterdam einen unerwartet hohen Preis. In der Auktion Old Masters and 19th Century Art wurde die Arbeit Portrait of an elegant lady, half-lenght, said to be Erminia van Beresteyn (1544-1625), in a black dress with fur jacket, a 'molensteen kraag' and white headdress für EUR 37.000,00 versteigert – und damit weit über dem oberen Schätzpreis von EUR 18.000,00. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Abraham de Vries auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Portrait of Jacques Boyceau (1560-1633) im Juni 2021 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von EUR 170.100,00.
