Printmaking in the computer age

The post-war period also marks the beginning of the computer age, which has already given rise to many influential art movements such as Minimal and Pop Art. Starting on February 24, ALBERTINA MODERN in Vienna will shed light on new design forms of traditional techniques such as lithography and woodcut in Andy Warhol to Damien Hirst − The Revolution in Printmaking.

What do traditional printmaking techniques offer us when the world is increasingly dominated by computers? Screen prints, woodcuts, lithographs and etchings seem to have no place in a digitally oriented world. Numerous famous artists proved the opposite and used traditional techniques to work creatively and at the cutting edge. In Andy Warhol to Damien Hirst − The Revolution in Printmaking, the ALBERTINA MODERN is showing about 100 works of art from the second half of the 20th century. The exhibits will be on view in Vienna from February 24 to July 23, 2023.

In addition to the artists mentioned in the title, innovative works by Robert Rauschenberg, Roy Lichtenstein, Agnes Martin, Kiki Smith, Georg Baselitz, Jörg Immendorff and Anselm Kiefer are among those represented. Curated by Antonia Hoerschelmann, the show also takes a look at mixed media that reveal new design possibilities.Art.Salon

Dive deeper into the art world

Till Schermer

Is our personality just an illusion? Till Schermer's paintings open up a new perspective on the fragmented human psyche. In intense, sometimes disturbing images, the artist presents the protagonists of our mental society - perhaps the start of an adventure for one's own mind.
