On view for the first time in an exhibition

»Gerhard Richter Artists' Books« at the New National Gallery in Berlin

For the first time Gerhard Richter's artist's books are to be seen in a survey exhibition: On the occasion of his 90th birthday on February 09, the Neue Nationalgalerie Berlin will open the show Gerhard Richter Künstlerbücher on February 10, 2022. The works, which are indispensable for the artist's self-image, provide a comprehensive insight into his world of thought.

February 10, 2022

The exhibition Gerhard Richter Künstlerbücher at the Neue Nationalgalerie Berlin is a special one among the many Richter presentations: From February 10 to May 29, 2022, it will feature Richter's artist books, the first time they have been shown in an exhibition. Since he created the first artist's book together with Sigmar Polke in 1966, they have been an important part of his oeuvre. In them, he deals in small format with his own work and the social expectations of artists that have changed over the decades. Richter published overpaintings of well-known works or abstract experiments in the artist books, which were set in a completely different context in book form than in exhibitions.

The occasion for the show is Richter's 90th birthday on February 9. The Dresden-born painter is one of the most famous and expensive living artists in the world. Richter carefully selects the subjects of his works and for decades has surprised with new painting techniques. The exhibition Gerhard Richter Künstlerbücher, which is well worth seeing, now provides comprehensive insights into a previously lesser-known area of his work.Art.Salon

Dive deeper into the art world

London, Tate Britain

It was one of the most moving decades in the history of the United Kingdom: the 1980s, characterized by strikes, protests and AIDS. Photographers documented this period and in some cases became political activists themselves through their images. The exhibition The 80s: Photographing Britain opens on November 21 at the Tate Britain in London.

Guido Klumpe

It is in the context of functional architecture in urban spaces that Guido Klumpe finds the motifs that he stages with his camera as the poetry of the profane. His picturesque images unfold an opulent effect with a reduced formal language, showing us the beauty of the moment in the flow of everyday life.
