City and landscape, nature and culture: until now, people have mainly understood these pairs of words as opposites. New architectural designs are shaking up these classic categories and could open up new paths to unity. With the new Architecture Connecting series, which will include several exhibitions from 2024 to 2029, the Louisiana Museum of Art in Humblebæk, Denmark, is presenting various architectural projects and ideas that think differently about building. The first show in the series is Living Structures, which opened in November and will be on display until March 23, 2025.

The exhibition features designs by ecoLogicStudio, Atelier LUMA and Jenny Sabin Studio, all of which use new methods inspired by nature to push the boundaries of architecture. London-based ecoLogicStudio, for example, is exploring how photosynthesis can be integrated into buildings, Atelier LUMA from Arles is researching the properties and benefits of new building materials such as sunflowers, rice or wool and Jenny Sabin, an experimental New York architect, is combining nature and architecture with mathematical and naturally occurring structures such as honeycomb or cell structures.

The Architecture Connecting series builds on the exhibition series The Architect's Studio, which was on show from 2017 to 2023. It featured various architects and their work, including the Amateur Architecture Studio from China, who often reuse building materials from demolished buildings and combine tradition with functionality, and Cave_bureau from Kenya, who are inspired by cave systems, the refuges of our early ancestors, and will co-design the British Pavilion at the Venice Architecture Biennale in 2025.Art.Salon

First bronze sculptures by Mathias Kadolph

The lively, dynamic and concentrated formal language of sculptor Mathias Kadolph has so far manifested itself primarily through his material, wood. Now, for the first time, he has had miniatures cast in bronze in an edition of twelve sculptures each. These convey essential impressions of his formal ideas and open up to new impulses for our perception.
