The HAMMER Museum's new works on paper gallery in Los Angeles will be inaugurated: works newly acquired since 2012 - some purchased, some donated - will be brought from the collection to the exhibition space. A Decade of Acquisitions of Works on Paper is the name of the show, in which the museum's »art haul«, the modern form of representation of its own shopping spoils, will be on view from February 13 to May 1 - not as a video on YouTube, but as an adaptation of a museum. It marks the beginning of a two-part series of exhibitions that will showcase the variety of the collected drawing and printmaking works. Both abstract and figurative works are on display, as well as conceptual, political or poetic works.
Artists from different decades are represented: Sue Williamson, Vija Celmins, Judy Chicago and Richard Artschwager belong to the 1960s generation. With Charles Burchfield and David Smith, the selection of works is supplemented by older artistic positions from the earlier 20th century. The exhibition's curators, Cynthia Burlingham and Connie Butler, also provide a variety of contemporary works, including those by Rachel Whiteread, Glenn Ligon, Rashid Johnson, Trisha Donelly, and Huma Bhaba.
