Inscribed and signed, with two seals of the artist Dedicated to Madame Zonghuo Eight-character Calligraphyic Couplet in Bronze Script Each scroll measures 142 x 24.6 cm. (55 7 ⁄ 8 x 9 5 ⁄ 8 in.) Inscribed and signed, with three seals of the artist Dated winter, eleventh month, jiazi year (1924) Both titleslip inscribed, each with one collector’s seal of Robert H. Ellsworth (1929-2014)

In May last year Christies in Hong Kong held the auction Exquisite Eye: Chinese Paintings Online, which included the work Ancient Pine Tree / Eight-character Calligraphic Couplet in Seal Script by Zeng Xi. The »bidding war« ended at HKD 107,100.00 (€ 12,715.07), 53% above the upper estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Zeng Xi - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Calligraphy, which sold at auction in October 2019 for HKD 375,000.00 (€ 42,861.95).
Oberer Schätzpreis um 53 % übertroffen
Im Mai letzten Jahres führte Christies in Hong Kong die Auktion Exquisite Eye: Chinese Paintings Online durch, in der auch die Arbeit Ancient Pine Tree / Eight-character Calligraphic Couplet in Seal Script von Zeng Xi zur Versteigerung kam. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von HKD 107.100,00 (€ 12.715,07) und damit 53% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Für andere Arbeiten von Zeng Xi mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit Calligraphy beobachtet, die im Oktober 2019 für HKD 375.000,00 (€ 42.861,95) versteigert wurde.
