The work Meiji Era (1868-1912), 1894-1896 by Toyohara Chikanobu was sold in the Fine Japanese and Korean Art, including the Crawford Collection of Surimono auction at Bonhams in New York in September 2021. The »bidding war« ended at USD 2,550.00 (€ 2,202.64), 70% above the upper estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Toyohara Chikanobu - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Scenes of beauties and farm life, which sold at auction in December 2021 for GBP 5,670.00 (€ 6,763.12).
Oberer Schätzpreis um 70 % übertroffen
Die Arbeit Meiji Era (1868-1912), 1894-1896 von Toyohara Chikanobu wurde im September 2021 in der Auktion Fine Japanese and Korean Art, including the Crawford Collection of Surimono bei Bonhams in New York versteigert. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von USD 2.550,00 (€ 2.202,64) und damit 70% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Für andere Arbeiten von Toyohara Chikanobu mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit Scenes of beauties and farm life beobachtet, die im Dezember 2021 für GBP 5.670,00 (€ 6.763,12) versteigert wurde.
