Meiji era (1868-1912), 1894-1896
22 oban triptychs, one diptych (incomplete sheets from a triptych) and two mokuroku (table of contents) prints from the series Chiyoda no ooku (The Inner Palace, Chiyoda) and two single sheets probably from the same series, some with all sheets joined, others in separate sheets; including Tanabata (Tanabata Festival), Naginata keiko (Naginata Sword Practice) and Oniwa no yozakura (Night Cherry Blossom Viewing in the Garden), published by Fukuda Hatsujiro/Kumajiro between 1894-1896, all signed Yoshu Chikanobu, each in a plastic sleeve, except for one single sheet.
The smallest: 35cm x 23cm (13¾in x 9 1/16in); the largest: 37.7cm x 73cm (14 13/16in x 28¾in). (27).

In November last year Bonhams in London held the auction Patient Detail, Perfect DesignJapanese Art across the Centuries, which included the work Meiji era (1868-1912), 1894-1896 by Toyohara Chikanobu. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 2,040.00 (€ 2,363.89), 70% above the upper estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Toyohara Chikanobu - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Scenes of beauties and farm life, which sold at auction in December 2021 for GBP 5,670.00 (€ 6,763.12).
Oberer Schätzpreis um 70 % übertroffen
Im November letzten Jahres führte Bonhams in London die Auktion Patient Detail, Perfect DesignJapanese Art across the Centuries durch, in der auch die Arbeit Meiji era (1868-1912), 1894-1896 von Toyohara Chikanobu zur Versteigerung kam. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von GBP 2.040,00 (€ 2.363,89) und damit 70% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Für andere Arbeiten von Toyohara Chikanobu mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit Scenes of beauties and farm life beobachtet, die im Dezember 2021 für GBP 5.670,00 (€ 6.763,12) versteigert wurde.
