Artwork auctioned at eight times the upper estimate price
When the work Calligraphy Fan by Wu Shantao was auctioned at POLY in Hong Kong in October 2013, the result exceeded expectations many times over. The upper estimate was set at a - in retrospect quite modest - HKD 30,000.00 but the actual price achieved was more than eight times as high at HKD 253,000.00 (€ 24,008.39). Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Wu Shantao; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Five-Character Couplet In Running Script sold at auction in October 2015 with the realized price of HKD 377,600.00 (€ 44,113.75).
Kunstwerk zum Achtfachen des oberen Schätzpreises versteigert
Als die Arbeit Calligraphy Fan von Wu Shantao im Oktober 2013 bei POLY in Hong Kong versteigert wurde, übertraf das Ergebnis die Erwartungen um ein Vielfaches. Der obere Schätzpreis war mit – rückwirkend betrachtet recht bescheidenen – HKD 30.000,00 angesetzt, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis hingegen war mit HKD 253.000,00 (€ 24.008,39) mehr als achtmal so hoch. Trotz des guten Ergebnisses ist dies nicht der höchste Zuschlag für ein Kunstwerk von Wu Shantao; den erzielte unter den von uns beobachteten Auktionen die Arbeit Five-Character Couplet In Running Script im Oktober 2015 mit dem Hammerpreis von HKD 377.600,00 (€ 44.113,75).
