NOTE :
Wu Meimei, also known as Xia Mei and Yi Mei, was born in Foshan City, Guangdong Province in Guangzhou. She is the sixth descendant of the famous scholar, connoisseur and collector Wu Rongguang (1773 – 1843) of the Qing dynasty. Wu Meimei started painting when she was young, and advanced with extraordinary speed under the guidance of her teacher Xie Zhiliu (1910 – 1997). Her paintings are acknowledged by masters such as Qi Gong (1912 – 2005) as a pioneering form of the classical style.

This artwork by Wu Meimei achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in Hong Kong in November 2016. In the Fine Chinese Modern Paintings auction, the work Orchid sold for HKD 31,250.00 (€ 3,808.02) - well above the upper estimate of HKD 16,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Wu Meimei; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Bamboo And Insects sold at auction in October 2019 with the realized price of HKD 35,400.00 (€ 4,046.17).
Oberer Schätzpreis um 95 % übertroffen
Dieses Kunstwerk von Wu Meimei erzielte im November 2016 bei Christies in Hong Kong einen unerwartet hohen Preis. In der Auktion Fine Chinese Modern Paintings wurde die Arbeit Orchid für HKD 31.250,00 (€ 3.808,02) versteigert – und damit weit über dem oberen Schätzpreis von HKD 16.000,00. Trotz des guten Ergebnisses ist dies nicht der höchste Zuschlag für ein Kunstwerk von Wu Meimei; den erzielte unter den von uns beobachteten Auktionen die Arbeit Bamboo And Insects im Oktober 2019 mit dem Hammerpreis von HKD 35.400,00 (€ 4.046,17).
