Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Dahad Ziaret. -- Tomb of Shaik Raheem Dad, -- Plain of Ishpan, near Gundamuck, Afghanistan, 17th April 1879 by William Simpson was sold in the Exploration and Travel auction at Christies in London in September 2007. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 3,000.00 – 5,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 3,500.00 (€ 5,018.74) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by William Simpson achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Jerusalem from the Mount of Olives in March last year with an auction result of GBP 94,500.00 (€ 112,040.39).
