A top price for William Mortensen - as previously expected
In February 2007 Christies in New York held the auction Photographs From The Estate of Thomas T. Solley, which included the work Salutation; Nude; and Jeanne Crain, 1943 by William Mortensen. The price achieved of USD 6,000.00 (€ 4,535.15) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as USD 5,000.00 – 7,000.00. Even if this result could not surprise positively, Salutation; Nude; and Jeanne Crain, 1943 is the most expensive artwork by William Mortensen that we have observed at auctions so far.
