The work The maid of the Inn by William Hay was worth GBP 6,572.50 (€ 9,861.17) to a buyer in May 2004. This price was achieved in the auction British and Victorian Paintings at Christies in London and exceeded the previously set upper estimate of GBP 1,200.00 many times over. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by William Hay; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot A Labour of Love; And Love'S Young Dream sold at auction in June 2006 with the realized price of GBP 10,800.00 (€ 15,627.42).
