In May 2008 Sothebys in New York held the auction American Paintings, Drawings & Sculpture, which included the work Still Life With Lobster by William Michael Harnett. The »bidding war« ended at USD 313,000.00 (€ 201,156.81), 25% above the upper estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by William Michael Harnett - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Still Life With Violin, which sold at auction in November 2019 for USD 500,000.00 (€ 453,761.68).

Im Mai 2008 führte Sothebys in New York die Auktion American Paintings, Drawings & Sculpture durch, in der auch die Arbeit Still Life With Lobster von William Michael Harnett zur Versteigerung kam. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von USD 313.000,00 (€ 201.156,81) und damit 25% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Für andere Arbeiten von William Michael Harnett mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit Still Life With Violin beobachtet, die im November 2019 für USD 500.000,00 (€ 453.761,68) versteigert wurde.
