Auction result well in line with expectations
The work A Naval squadron reefed down for the impending storm (illustrated); and A brig arriving at her anchorage by William Joy was auctioned at Christies in London in January 2008. The price achieved of GBP 1,000.00 (€ 1,340.54) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 800.00 – 1,200.00. Admittedly, works by William Joy have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work A Dutch galliot and other vessels in calm conditions on a British shoreline in October 2021 with an auction result of GBP 8,925.00 (€ 10,573.71).
