In October 2019 Sothebys in New York held the auction Classic Photographs, which included the work A Mountain Rivulet Which Flows At The Foot Of Doune Castle by William Henry Fox Talbot. It changed hands for a price of USD 13,750.00 (€ 12,326.31) achieving a result in the upper range of the estimate price range of USD 10,000.00 – 15,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by William Henry Fox Talbot achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work William Henry Fox Talbot’S Gifts To His Sister: Horatia Gaisford’S Collection Of Photographs And Ephemera in April 2021 with an auction result of USD 1,956,000.00 (€ 1,625,935.16).
