Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work 'Lavinia and her mother'; and 'Palaemon and Lavinia' by William Hamilton was auctioned at Christies in New York in January 2004, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 15,000.00 – 20,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 11,950.00 (€ 9,596.85). Admittedly, works by William Hamilton have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Campi Phlegraei. Observations On The Volcanos Of The Two Sicilies. Supplement To The Campi Phlegraei Being An Account Of The Great Eruption Of Mont Vesuvius In The Month Of August 1779. Napoli: Pietro Fabris, 1776-79 in November 2010 with an auction result of EUR 82,350.00.
Observations On The Volcanos Of The Two Sicilies. Supplement To The Campi Phlegraei Being An Account Of The Great Eruption Of Mont Vesuvius In The Month Of August 1779. Napoli: Pietro Fabris, 1776-79 im November 2010 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von EUR 82.350,00.
