A top price for William Dole
When the work History of the King, 1963 by William Dole was auctioned at Bonhams in Los Angeles in September last year, the result exceeded expectations many times over. The upper estimate was set at a - in retrospect quite modest - USD 1,200.00 but the actual price achieved was more than three times as high at USD 4,080.00 (€ 4,170.50). This high result makes History of the King, 1963 the most expensive artwork by William Dole that we have observed at auctions so far.
