Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Portrait of James Campbell of Hampton Court House, seated full-length, in a black jacket and cream breeches by William Collins was sold in the British and Victorian including Scottish Paintings auction at Christies in London in March 2004. The price achieved of GBP 2,390.00 (€ 3,577.61) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 2,000.00 – 3,000.00. Admittedly, works by William Collins have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Morning - Boulogne in July 2017 with an auction result of GBP 26,250.00 (€ 29,290.97).
