Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Lord Charles (1813–1894) And Lord Thomas (1813–1882) Pelham Clinton, Twin Sons Of The 4Th Duke Of Newcastle-Under-Lyne, Leafing Through Books In An Interior. by William Collins was auctioned at Sothebys in London in April 2016, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 6,000.00 – 8,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 5,625.00 (€ 7,190. Admittedly, works by William Collins have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Morning - Boulogne in July 2017 with an auction result of GBP 26,250.00 (€ 29,290.97).
