This artwork by William Alister Macdonald achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in December 2016. In the Topographical Pictures auction, the work Tahitians fishing in an outrigger in the lagoon, the reef and Moorea beyond sold for GBP 4,750.00 (€ 5,553.52) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 2,500.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by William Alister Macdonald; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Views of the Island of Tahiti sold at auction in April 2005 with the realized price of GBP 4,800.00 (€ 7,104.70).
