Auction result well in line with expectations
In May 2000 Christies in London held the auction Maritime, which included the work The Departure of the fishing fleet; and The returning fishing fleet by William Adolphus Knell. The price achieved of GBP 2,350.00 (€ 3,770.88) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 2,000.00 – 3,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by William Adolphus Knell - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work The East Indiaman Exeter making for the Ladrone Islands, China, 1805, which sold at auction in May 2012 for GBP 11,250.00 (€ 14,017.01).
