Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Flowers, fruit and dead game on a stone ledge with a sculpture of Mercury beyond by Willem van Leen was auctioned at Christies in New York in September 2005. It changed hands for a price of USD 14,400.00 (€ 11,942.28) achieving a result in the upper range of the estimate price range of USD 10,000.00 – 15,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Willem van Leen - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work A fine still life of flowers in a stone vase sculpted with amorini on a stone ledge including a peony, anemonies, old roses, auriculae, chrysanthemums, daisies, larkspur and acanthus leaves, two goldfinches in a bird's nest, which sold at auction in May 2004 for GBP 26,290.00 (€ 39,444.68).
