In an original 19th century gilded frame
Painted between 1836-1839 as one of the series of five works commissioned by J.C. Baud after his return from the Dutch East Indies. Two other paintings of the palace forming part of the series are in the collection of the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam.

In October 2002 Christies in Hong Kong held the auction SOUTHEAST ASIAN PICTURES, which included the work The garden facade of the Old Palace of the Governor-General at Buitenzorg (Bogor) before the earthquake of 1834, viewed from the far side of the ornamental lake in the botanic gardens by Willem Troost. The price achieved of HKD 776,750.00 (€ 100,778.62) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as HKD 650,000.00 – 850,000.00.
