Landscape and Trees after Wu Li, 1877
Horizontal handscroll, ink and color on paper, the artist transcribing the original Wu Li inscriptions, followed by his own inscription dated dingchou, and signed Weng Tonghe, with two seals Tonghe siyin and Weng, mounted with a colophon by Lu Shufan (1868-1926) dated yimao (1915).

This price was achieved in the auction The Reverend Richard Fabian Collection of Chinese Paintings and Calligraphy III at Bonhams in New York and exceeded the previously set upper estimate of USD 12,000.00 many times over. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Weng Tonghe; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Calligraphic Couplet in Running Script sold at auction in November 2017 with the realized price of HKD 750,000.00 (€ 80,748.87).
