Artwork auctioned at 16 times the upper estimate price
The work Mountainous Landscape by Wen Dian was worth HKD 2,430,000.00 (€ 240,979.37) to a buyer in May 2013. This price was achieved in the auction Fine Chinese Classical Paintings and Calligraphy at Christies in Hong Kong and exceeded the previously set upper estimate of HKD 150,000.00 many times over. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Wen Dian; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Study in a Village by a River sold at auction in May 2010 with the realized price of HKD 3,140,000.00 (€ 326,210.69).
