Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work The Botanical Magazine or Flower Garden Displayed: Six Plates by Walter Hood Fitch was auctioned at Christies in New York in July 2004, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 2,000.00 – 3,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 1,195.00 (€ 993.18). Other works by Walter Hood Fitch have also sold for higher prices; the highest price we have seen at auction so far was achieved in September 2005 by the work Icones Plantarum: Seven Plates at USD 1,680.00 (€ 1,393.27).
