In December 2012 Christies in London held the auction Peter Langan: A Life with Art, which included the work Portrait of Whistler, half-length, with monocle and top hat by Walter Greaves. The auction ended at the price of GBP 10,000.00 (€ 12,332.78), which exactly corresponded to the upper end of the estimated price range of GBP 7,000.00 – 10,000.00. Admittedly, works by Walter Greaves have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work James Abbott McNeill Whistler on the Widow's Walk at his House in Lindsey Row, Chelsea in June 2003 with an auction result of GBP 59,750.00 (€ 85,864.00).
Zuschlag beim oberen Schätzpreis
Im Dezember 2012 führte Christies in London die Auktion Peter Langan: A Life with Art durch, in der auch die Arbeit Portrait of Whistler, half-length, with monocle and top hat von Walter Greaves zur Versteigerung kam. Das dabei erzielte Ergebnis von GBP 10.000,00 (€ 12.332,78) entsprach exakt dem oberen Ende der Schätzpreisspanne von GBP 7.000,00 – 10.000,00. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Walter Greaves auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit James Abbott McNeill Whistler on the Widow's Walk at his House in Lindsey Row, Chelsea im Juni 2003 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 59.750,00 (€ 85.864,00).
