In October 2003 Christies in New York held the auction Photographs, which included the work Penny Picture Display, Savannah by Walker Evans. The »bidding war« ended at USD 197,900.00 (€ 170,471.19), 32% above the upper estimate. With this result, Penny Picture Display, Savannah is even the most expensive work of art by Walker Evans that we have observed at auctions so far.
