Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Study of an elderly man from the Poltava region by Vladimir Makovsky was auctioned at Christies in London in June 2010, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 1,000.00 – 1,500.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 750.00 (€ 912.07). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Vladimir Makovsky achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work The Rag Market In Moscow in November 2008 with an auction result of GBP 1,329,250.00 (€ 1,607,163.15).
