Acquired directly from the artist, Bombay, circa 1960s | Robert Eugene Marshak (1916-1992) was a world-renowned theoretical physicist and former President of the City College of New York. He was famously recruited as part of the scientific research efforts during World War II, and later he helped to found the Federation of American Scientists, to ensure that the terror of nuclear weapons was contained. Marshak met his wife, Ruth Gup (1916-1996),

This work without title by Vasudeo S. Gaitonde was sold in the Modern & Contemporary South Asian Art auction at Sothebys in New York in March 2021. The »bidding war« ended at USD 1,956,000.00 (€ 1,665,673.17), 63% above the upper estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Vasudeo S. Gaitonde - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work without title, which sold at auction in September 2017 for USD 4,092,500.00 (€ 3,464,403.62).

Diese Arbeit ohne Titel von Vasudeo S. Gaitonde wurde im März 2021 in der Auktion Modern & Contemporary South Asian Art bei Sothebys in New York versteigert. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von USD 1.956.000,00 (€ 1.665.673,17) und damit 63% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Für andere Arbeiten von Vasudeo S. Gaitonde mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit ohne Titel beobachtet, die im September 2017 für USD 4.092.500,00 (€ 3.464.403,62) versteigert wurde.
