Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Ki (Board games) by Utagawa Toyoharu was auctioned at Christies in New York in March last year, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 6,000.00 – 8,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 5,500.00 (€ 4,958.08). However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Utagawa Toyoharu - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Ten beauties of Edo, which sold at auction in March 2004 for USD 19,120.00 (€ 15,554.83).
