In January 2016 a collector was able to acquire the work Mountainous River Landscape With Travelers by Tobias Verhaecht for USD 87,500.00 (€ 80,779.17). This price was achieved in the auction Master Paintings & Sculpture Day Sale at Sothebys in New York and was even below the estimate range of USD 100,000.00 – 200,000.00 set by the auction house. Despite this disappointing result, Mountainous River Landscape With Travelers is the most expensive artwork by Tobias Verhaecht that we have observed at auction so far.
