Auction result well in line with expectations
In June 2008 Christies in New York held the auction Christie's Interiors, which included the work Portrait of William Prescott Smith; and a companion portrait of Margaret Anne Smith by Thomas Waterman Wood. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of USD 2,000.00 – 3,000.00, the actual price achieved of USD 2,125.00 (€ 1,349.38) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Thomas Waterman Wood achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Arguing the Question in May 2007 with an auction result of USD 180,000.00 (€ 133,799.15).
Auktionsergebnis im Rahmen der Erwartungen
Im Juni 2008 führte Christies in New York die Auktion Christie's Interiors durch, in der auch die Arbeit Portrait of William Prescott Smith; and a companion portrait of Margaret Anne Smith von Thomas Waterman Wood zur Versteigerung kam. Der Schätzpreis für das Kunstwerk wurde von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 2.000,00 – 3.000,00 angegeben, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis von USD 2.125,00 (€ 1.349,38) konnte den unteren Schätzpreis somit knapp übertreffen. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Thomas Waterman Wood erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Arguing the Question im Mai 2007 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 180.000,00 (€ 133.799,15).
