Auction result misses estimated price range
In December 2005 a collector was able to acquire the work From the top of the mountain, Kirkstone, looking down on Brother's Dale and Water Place Fell in the distance, Westmorland by Thomas Sunderland for GBP 504.00 (€ 731.53). This price was achieved in the auction British and Continental Watercolours and Oriental at Christies in London and was even below the estimate range of GBP 600.00 – 800.00 set by the auction house. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Thomas Sunderland - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Stybarrow Crag, Ullswater, Lake District, which sold at auction in June 2010 for GBP 2,000.00 (€ 2,432.19).
