Auction result well in line with expectations
The work George IV when Prince of Wales by Thomas Rowlandson was sold in the Old Master and British Drawings and Watercolours auction at Christies in London in July this year. The price achieved of GBP 5,040.00 (€ 5,880.15) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 4,000.00 – 6,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Thomas Rowlandson achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work A gaming table at Devonshire House, London: Georgiana, Duchess of Devonshire, Harriet, Lady Duncannon, the Prince of Wales and others gambling in July 2017 with an auction result of GBP 87,500.00 (€ 97,636.56).
